Kaurna Putpayarta

Description:

The Kaurna Putpayarta (Fertile Soil) Yarning Circle project located at Adelaide University’s Waite Campus was a collaboration between Mantirri Design, Aspect Studios, Adelaide University and representatives of the Kaurna community that responds to the surrounding context, local culture and environment. The positions of the artistic screens unfurl like new plant growth and each screen is decorated in a Kaurna plant that grows naturally in the area.

This space offer university students and others an opportunity to yarn and learn in the outdoors instead of the traditional classroom environment. This space is placed to resonate with Indigenous students, alike and offer a pedagogical learning experience, an opportunity to bring people together, celebrate culture, bring in a landscape offering and an opportunity to engage and understand the importance of Kaurna Country, people and culture.
